Merida web small by Pixargirl

Name:
Merida Dunbroch

Nickname: Mer

Age: 16

Birthday: February 23

Species: Human

Powers: None

Occupation: Student at Arcane Magi Academy

Personality: Merida is a strong, fiery, brave young woman who's seen as more of a tomboy in how she feels her happiest doing physical activities such as sports, (her favorites being archery and sword fighting). Yet she's rather impatient and self-centered with how she's often more focused on her own interests in the moment that of anyone else. This tendency to lack interests has caused some strained between her and her mother resulting her to be more open in her rebellion. However, when she does screw up beyond an emotional construct, she does try to fix it.

However, behind the angry, brattiness she is also has some insecurities on how her mother wants her to be and what they both think is best for her. Much of the time it has lead Merida to become something of a loner with how she rather do things her own thing like archery and if she wanted certain company she'd spend it with her dad or brothers. In some ways Merida feels like she's one of the guys by feeling more comfortable with them. She wouldn't say she's shy, just kind of hard to figure out. She has a heart in some places with how she's affectionate with her little brothers and her father. If someone is being treated badly, she will stand up for them with no question.

One of her biggest problems in that of her impulsive nature and overall stubborn that with a combination like that can result in a dead set situation. Yet her determination for the here and now has her overlook things such as her future and what she wants to do with her life after school. If she were asked what job take in the future she'd probably say "Olympic archer for Scotland." If her mother overheard her say that she'd scoff and tell her that it isn't a sustainable career path. She hides her feelings of hurt by ignoring it and just doing what she wants.

Despite Merida's confidence in her skills as an athlete and anger at her mother, she does admire her mom as an intellectual. These feelings of admiration of Elinor also lead to Merida's feelings of insecurity that isn't smart enough or good enough. Merida can be clever, witty, and creative, but she doesn't think she'll match to her mom into what she wants or expects Merida to be.

History: Merida grew up in a rather well off family with the main provider being her mother, Elinor who is an attorney for the Association for Equality of Magical and Non-Magical People and father being a warrior. Despite her mother's busy life she wants to spends time with Merida but it felt Merida as her feeling suffocated. Merida sees her mom as educated and often talks to her about the latest exploits between magic users and non-magic and how she's constantly thinking of studying solutions to these continuing debates. Merida while knowing her mom's passionate about that and wanting to help, it kind of bores and overwhelms her to the point where she doesn't think she'd follow along or be ready for the real world. Doesn't help that she doesn't know what she wants to do in the future. Eventually such feelings of not understanding have caused her to lash out and distancing herself from her mother.

Most of Merida's social life was more purposeful distance to her peers. She's not shy but she doesn't really know how to relate to them in some ways. She often went to sporting events and saw herself as one of the guys. For the most part she kind of does her own activities that don't usually involve other people.

One day, Merida's mom announces to her that she's going to Arcane Magic Academy in Lunaville in order to make friend with magic users and showing that coexistence. Much to Merida shock and anger she runs away to the forest near her house as she starts shooting arrows in an effort to get her mind off this news. Her mom eventually finds her and tells Merida that she's going anyways but to see it as good thing of making friends, much to Merida's annoyance. Merida starts to realize the opportunity though, her parents won't be there, she'll be alone, she can do whatever she wants! Granted she still has to take classes but at least her mother wouldn't be hovering over her shoulder.

Elinor, sensing that her daughter might take advantage of her independent living situation, tells Merida that the former will be staying in a hotel for the first six weeks of the semester to make sure that Merida is taking her studies and socializing seriously.
