School of Magic: Science Class

Teacher: Syndrome

Summary: This class is for those who wish to learn about the scientific understanding of the world and of their own magic abilities and powers (that is if a student has them). While learning about basics in science such as the scientific method, genetics, basic physics and chemistry, and biological constructs this class will also look to explore the latest news in science, experiment with power and how they effect the natural science or scientific laws. The work will be hands-on activities and sometimes call to go outside for more room to experiment. We will introduce a concept in class on Mondays and your projects/homework will be due on Fridays where we will further discuss the topic this week.

Class Time: 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM, Mondays and Fridays.

Requirements: 

• A creative mind
• Intense focus and concentration
• Understanding of basics
• Good listening skills
• Experimentation

Items Needed: 

• Notebooks
• Binders
• Goggles and gloves (much will be provided)
• Graphing paper
• Blank sheets of paper
• Elements or elements starters (matches, liquids of any kind, pieces of metal or random metallic or mostly metallic object, rocks, leaves or some sort of plant life, seeds, etc.)
• Pencils and pens
• Highlighter

Grading: 

Students will be graded on participation, homework, tests, exams and the three huge projects:

Participation- 5%
Homework- 5%
Quizzes- 10%
Tests- 10%
Midterm and Final Exams: 30%
Projects- 40% of total grade

Major Projects: Students will be looking into three of the main magical types:

• Elementals
• Mental
• Arcane
• Other (Mimicry, molecular, etc.)

For these projects it is encouraged for you to work with a partner, however there can be no more than three people in a group. If you wish to work by yourself please come talk to me before you do. It's also recommended to partner with someone who has one of the following abilities. If neither partner has powers that's perfectly fine as the projects overall is about the study of that type of magic, the science behind each of them and how it effects or is effected by magical and scientific property and coming up with your own understanding and conclusion.

Extra Credit: For those who wish to show off their brilliance it's encouraged that you join the Robotics Club. For those who aren't doing so well you may join and observe what the latest project is.

Other Notes: Since I started teaching I’ve had students who come from all over the world, many of whom don’t speak English. Because the main language spoken in this school is English, I invented earpieces that translates the words of languages being spoken aloud by a student or teacher into the original language the one listening is from. These earpieces will be given to non-English speaking students on the first day of class. If you don’t have my class first day, other teachers will have them to give as well. However, you can only hear the translation of your native language. Reading and speaking other languages will require you to go to the Charms class or story. If there is a problem with your earpiece please come to me.

Additionally on the first day I will hand out a paper that you will need to write down your power or powers. This is mainly so I can recommend proper topics and experiments you can take part in or find interesting.

I will assign partners random for general homework and project assignments. You don’t like your partner, well suck it up. Unless your partner is doing nothing for the assignment I will not change it.
